Gout And Sweating – Can Sweating Help Us?

sweating and gout

Gout and sweating are something you will have to understand completely. Sweating is a natural process in our body which is focused on maintaining the body temperature, cleaning pores, eliminating toxins and also on killing viruses and bacteria on the skin. As such, this process is extremely important. An interesting fact is that we have between 2 and 4 million sweat glands in the body. Women have a higher number of it, but men do sweat more because their glands are more active.

Gout and sweating

The main thing you will have to know is that gout is one of the conditions which can cause hyperhidrosis. This is a condition which is characterized by excess sweating and it affects millions all around the globe. It has been linked to gout and it is known that some people are diagnosed with the hyperhidrosis and gout at the same time.

I actually noticed that I sweat more at the same time I was diagnosed with gout, a few years back. It is easy to notice this matter. First, you will sweat more frequently and in more amounts than ever before, so you should realize that something is wrong. Keep in mind that hyperhidrosis is also possible if you suffer from conditions which affect the thyroid gland, diabetes, and several other conditions.

Can sweating help us?

The answer to this question is yes, sweating is a helpful method to reduce the level of uric acid in the body. Sweating is actually the second best way we have to reduce the level of uric acid. The first method is urination. But, you should know that urine contains 95% water, while sweat contains 99% water. Still urinating is more effective because it eliminates a much bigger amount of water from the body.

As such, sweating is definitely important for us, gout sufferers, and it is something you will want to understand better. Basically, when we sweat, we reduce or eliminate toxins from the body, including uric acid. When we do that, the risk of a gout attack is much lower and we can see some benefits of the sweating straightaway.

Drink fluids

Although, sweating is a useful process it is something that can be harmful at the same time. It means that you must drink more fluids when you sweat! If you sweat, but you don’t increase the water consumption, chances are high that you will cause dehydration. Once this happens, the risk of increasing the level of uric acid is extremely high and it is going in one direction only, higher. In addition, when exercising you will sweat even more.

Here I must add the fact that if you are exercising on a regular basis, you will have to consume more water than usual and you will have to make sure you drink it before, during and after a workout. We all know that gout sufferers prefer and need simple and low-resistance exercises, which won’t stress out our joints, but it is important to add that water has a huge overall effect. The main concern here is actually in the electrolytes, which are decreased while we sweat. The only way we can increase their levels is to drink more water.

The bottom point here is that sweating usually has a positive effect on gout, but only if you accompany it with a proper hydration. If you make a mistake here and let your body sweat, but you do not consume more water, chances are high that you will develop a severe conditions known as dehydration. We all know what it means and what it can do to us. That’s why make sure you drink plenty of water.

Conclusion

Gout and sweating can be used in the same sentence, but only if you know what you are doing. Keep in mind that you will have to drink more water as soon as you notice that the sweating intensity has been increased. More water will prevent you from dehydrating, and they will help you get new electrolytes which are essential for us. I hope I have helped you with this matter.
