Gout… One word that causes so much. Well, today I will help you learn how you can fight against gout and decrease the risk of gout attacks as much as possible. It isn’t a complex science so all of you will manage it.
The best gout diet is the one that does one or two things. First of all, you must keep the purine intake to the lowest minimum and keep it like that. Secondly, you should make sure that you consume foods and meals that can decrease the level of uric acid.
There are countless foods out there and some are in front of you as we speak. Others are more complicated to find and they are less effective. Anyway, you can base your diet on the right foods and you can lead a life without gout attacks.
One fruit has been of special interest to me for a long period of time. It is a grape. How gout and grapes can coexist, and is this fruit good or bad? The answer is slightly more complicated than I prefer but I will try to explain it as much as possible.
What is grape and which nutrients does it has?
Grape is one of the first fruits we domesticated in the past. We started planting it and consuming it before 6000-8000 years in the near east. From there, it spread across the world and now we can see vineyards literally anywhere.
Most of the grape is used for making vine and I can add that this is the primary purpose these days. However, the grape can be used for making jams or as a treat that is healthy and comes with needed nutrients.
Grape contains only 0.16 grams of fat and 0.7 grams of protein per 100 grams. It is loaded with vitamins as well. 100 grams of grape will contain 10.8 mg of vitamin C, which is excellent. It is loaded with potassium as well. 100 grams will offer 159 grams. Only the banana has more potassium.
Grape also contains Resveratrol which is one of the most powerful antioxidants known to man. Other nutrients we can see here include minerals such as iron, copper and manganese and also plenty of enzymes.
Connection between gout and grapes
The first thing I must reveal here is that grape is safe for gout patients and there are no side effects. It doesn’t have any side effects on uric acid. It doesn’t increase it and it won’t contribute to the next gout attack.
There is one study conducted in China where scientists fed mice with grape seeds. They discovered that there was no increase in uric acid in mice who ate grape seeds and those who didn’t.
Obviously, when you eat grape, you will eat the seeds so they are a mandatory part of the grape. This is important because most of the nutrients and needed ingredients in grape come from the seeds.
One of those ingredients is called OPCs or simply put oligomeric proanthocyanidins. This is a powerful antioxidant that has a wonderful effect on free radicals. See, free radicals can damage the joints and tissue inside them, which will make the pain more severe. The compound eliminates free radicals and promotes the recovery of damaged tissue in the joints.
Grape is also rich in vitamin C which is known to decrease the level of uric acid. When consumed in moderation, grape can contribute to a slightly lower risk of a gout flare. Gout and grapes can be mixed and there are no complications or side effects of any kind.

How to consume grape if you have gout?
The best thing you can do is to consume fresh and organic grape. It comes in countless variations and all of my words here apply to all of them. The main thing to memorize is that grape must be consumed in moderation.
For gout sufferers, it is still a risky topic, but when you consume a few grapes per day, the positive sides are much higher than any side effects or issues. Gout and grapes can be mixed and there are no drawbacks. All you have to remember is that there are some, minor benefits such as lower uric acid level and a nice list of nutrients your body will get.
