Baking soda is something that all of us have at home in massive amounts. It is cheap, can be used for millions of applications and it is more beneficial for multiple purposes. Believe or not, baking soda and gout are linked. Better said, you can use baking soda to treat gout. I tried this method and it actually works.

Using baking soda for treating gout

Maybe some of you believe that baking soda used for treating gout is a new alternative, but actually, it isn’t. As a matter of fact, baking soda was used for treating gout in the 19th century in the United Kingdom. There, doctors discovered that baking soda can raise levels of pH of human blood and reduce the levels of uric acid. Even today this method is commonly used and it is one of the most common there are.

Before I say anything else, it is mandatory to have a consultation with your doctor as soon as possible, if you are planning to use baking soda.

Does baking soda help gout?

In general, baking soda will help you decrease the risk of gout, but it will also help you overcome a gout attack. The main fact to know here is that for some people this method works instantly, while others need between 24 hours and 1 week in order to experience the main benefits. Still, you must have a consultation with your doctor is it safe to use this method. Also, keep in mind that if you suffer from kidney, liver or heart issues, this method may not be ideal for you.

Another fact you should know is that side effects are possible, but they are minor. For example, you can expect nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting, but nothing else. For example, I didn’t get any of the side effects, so it is crucial to mention it. Still, some of you may experience discomfort.

Guidelines for using baking soda for treating gout

As you may know, using baking soda in order to treat gout is more than just a simple task. All you have to do is to dissolve it in a glass of water and drink that mixture. You should add a half of a tablespoon to 250 ml of water and drink it 4 times a day. It is crucial to remember that one time must be drunk before going to bed. It is a well-known fact that our body increases levels of uric acid while we sleep, therefore most of the gout attacks will occur while we sleep, or before dawn.

The next thing to remember is that you should start decreasing the amount of baking soda you use as soon as you feel better. Some users including myself are great even with ¼ of a tablespoon when mixed with water, and the benefits are even better. The main reason why baking soda should be used as low as possible is sodium. It is rich in sodium, so much that you won’t like consuming baking soda in severe amounts. As a matter of fact, one tablespoon will contain 1200 mg of sodium. Using it in high amounts will increase the risk of numerous conditions and also may damage your mouth, stomach and etc.

What will baking soda do for you?

Our bodies should have pH factor 7 in order to work properly. What baking soda does is alkalizing the value by increasing the number of body fluids in the organism. Better said, if your pH value is 8 or 9, baking soda will reduce it to 7, which is considered as neutral.

So, how baking soda actually works? First of all, it will increase the levels of blood and fluids, literally promoting the elimination of uric acid. Then, blood will be able to contain more of uric acid than usual, so you will have a lower risk of a gout attack. Furthermore, this method also makes you eliminate the harmful chemicals from the body and uric acid, because it promotes kidney function. In a nutshell, your body will become better in decreasing the levels of uric acid and literally make you immune to the gout attack.

Once again, I must mention that baking soda acts perfectly, but it should be considered its sodium level, which is high. Keep in mind that you should start decreasing the amount of baking soda you use as soon as possible.

The next thing I will explain is how actually this method effective is. Believe or not, 85% of users, according to the online survey claimed that baking soda helped them with their gout. This means that only 15% of people haven’t benefited from it. In a nutshell, this is considered as a great success and it is something you will have to try.

Obviously, the main point here is to alkalize your body which will prevent severe attacks. But, I must add that you can also use alkaline drops in order to get the same effect.
